Dr. H N Phadnis
Dr. H. N. Phadnis founded Shree Clinic, a small 7-bed hospital in 1956. Dr. Phadnis was a teacher at the BJ Medical College, when he took the unprecedented step of seeking a loan to start a clinic! The small clinic grew to a 20-bed nursing home in the leafy by-lanes of Jungli Maharaj Road and became a sanctuary for expectant mothers at a time when dedicated woman-and-child care was still largely a cottage industry. A much loved and charismatic doctor, with a larger-than-life persona, Dr. Phadnis ran Shree Clinic with the help of his wife Sumati and sister Radha, both of whom provided the extremely compassionate, personal nursing care that became the hallmark of the clinic. While Dr. Phadnis himself went on to pursue a spiritual path at the very peak of his career, he had laid the foundation for a legacy that would continue undaunted into the future. ONP Hospital traces its origins back to this clinic.
