Pneumonia is a serious lung infection that can affect children of all ages. It occurs when bacteria, viruses, or fungi infect the lungs, causing inflammation and fluid buildup. Young children, especially those under five years old, are more vulnerable due to their developing immune systems.

Causes of Pneumonia in Kids
The most common causes of pneumonia in children include:
Viruses: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza, and adenovirus.
Bacteria: Streptococcus pneumoniae and Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
Fungi: More common in children with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms of pneumonia can vary depending on the cause but often include- High fever and chills, Cough with mucus, Fast or difficult breathing, Chest pain, Fatigue and weakness, Loss of appetite or difficulty feeding (in infants)

Treatment for pneumonia varies based on its type. Viral pneumonia typically improves with rest, fluids, and fever management, while bacterial pneumonia requires antibiotics. In severe cases, particularly for infants, hospitalization may be necessary.

To prevent pneumonia, ensure your child gets recommended vaccines (like pneumococcal and flu shots), practices good hygiene, and maintains a healthy diet to strengthen immunity.
If your child shows persistent coughing, difficulty breathing, or high fever, seek medical attention immediately. Early treatment can prevent complications and ensure a faster recovery.
